Samstag und Sonntag sind von 15 bis 22 Uhr zahlreiche Künstler und Künstlerinnen vom Künstlerkollektiv Mühlenkampf eingeladen worden, den Garather Stadtraum als Plattform für Workshops und Aktionen zu nutzen. Es wird Projekte geben, die vor allen Dingen von der Teilnahme der Garather leben – so zum Beispiel eine kleine Lesereise, bei der alle eingeladen sind, eine Geschichte aus „Don Quichotte“ vorzulesen. Die Lesegruppe wandert von Ort zu Ort, um reihum ein Kapitel vorzulesen.

Samstagabend wird in einem ‘Beamer-Spaziergang’ von Vera Drebusch die Architektur vor Ort als Projektionsfläche genutzt.  (VORSICHT ORTSÄNDERUNG “INSTRUCTION MANUALS” NUN IM LADENLOKAL )Im Stadtraum von Garath werden Bedienungsanleitungen des Projekts “Instruction Manual” zu finden sein, für das schon einige Garather Pate gestanden haben und im Ladenlokal können sich Besucher und Besucherinnen über sämtliche Projekte informieren und bei Kaffee und Kuchen stärken.

Auch Künstler und Künstlerinnen, die schon zuvor in Garath gearbeitet haben, – wie Philipp Hamann und die Theatergruppe „Mobile Albania“ – präsentieren dieser Tage die Produkte ihres Garathaufenthalts.

Seit August hat Mühlenkampf das Ladenlokal in der Emil-Barth-Straße 9 mit unterschiedlichsten Projekten – wie beispielsweise der Pilzpatenschaft – bespielt. Jeden Donnerstag wurden Sprechstunden angeboten und so Garath noch besser kennengelernt.

Das Kölner Künstlerkollektiv machte aber bereits mit dem Projekt „Ankömmlinge“ im September 2010 Garath auf sich aufmerksam – und umgekehrt.

Mobile Albania hat sich auf den Weg gemacht und ist auf dem Weg. Auf der Suche nach einer anderen Form von Mobilität. Aus großen Zielen kleine Begegnungen machen. Gegründet wurde es als der Versuch einer fahrbaren Institution, mit einem mobilen Theaterbus und seinem Begleiter, einem selbstgebauten Esel, öffentliche Aktionen zu organisieren, die regional und spartenübergreifend ungewöhnliche Begegnungen und unvorhergesehenen Austausch ermöglichen. Das Kernteam besteht aus den Gründungsmitgliedern Katharina Stephan, Sarah Günther und Roland Siegwald, Grundkonzept und Arbeitsweise des Projektes sind jedoch, dass jede Aktion von Hinzukommenden mit- und umgestaltet wird und die Inhalte immer wieder neu vom konkreten Ort vorgegeben werden.
In unserer Gesellschaft nimmt das Wort mobil immer mehr Raum ein, es gibt die mobilen Arbeiter, legale und illegalisierte Migranten, Touristen und Flüchtlinge, alle sind unterwegs. Doch sind wir zunehmend anwesende Abwesende, die in vorübergehenden Siedlungen warten, arbeiten oder Urlaub machen und nicht mehr am politischen Gemeinwesen teilnehmen. Die regionale Öffentlichkeit macht einem privatisierten und homogenisierten Stadtraum Platz. Die Orientierung in der Welt basiert zunehmend auf virtuellen Informationen anstatt auf persönlicher Erfahrung. Wir setzen dem vorwiegend marktwirtschaftlich geprägten Begriff von mobil ein anderes mobil entgegen, im Sinne von aktiver regionaler Teilnahme.

17. Sept. 11.-18.Uhr Workshop

Kyd Campbell kommt mit dem Open Source Projekt “Jardin Suspendu” von Britta Riley  oder auf gut Deutsch: Hängende Gärten in unser Sommerlabor. Für den Winter holen wir, zusammen mit euch, eure Gärten nach drinnen mit diesem mit diesem Projekt, das inzwischen ein internationales Gemeinschaftsprojekt ist, über dessen Webseite www.windowfarms.org alle Interessierten Neuigkeiten und Verbesserungen austauschen. Kyd Campbell hat diese simple Gärtnermethode dieses Frühjahr auf dem Forum Social Mondial in Dakar vorgestellt. Konkret geht es um das Bauen von Hängenden Fenster Gärten aus im Haushalt vorhandenen Gegenständen, wie: Plastikflaschen.

Durch eine einfach nachbaubare Methode wird das eigene Fenster unkompliziert zur Anbaufläche von Pflanzen, Kräutern, Gemüse und Zierpflanzen. Es wird kaum Erde benötigt und ein äußerst effizientes Bewässerungssystem erledigt die meiste Arbeit.

Der Workshop am Samstag zeigt alle Methoden und abends kann man sich seinen eigenen kleinen Garten mit nach Hause nehmen. Wir überlegen außerdem, ob wir eine öffentliche Fläche in Garath finden, an der wir hängende Gärten installieren können.

Während der drei Tage wird Philipp Hamann mit einer Fotokamera und einer Dose Tee Garath erkunden und sich Geschichten seiner Bewohner erzählen lassen. Besonders interessant sind dabei Wohn- und Lebensräume, sowie die damit verbundenen für den Außenstehenden unsichtbaren Geschichten. Daher ist dies auch ein Aufruf an alle Menschen aus Garath: Wer hat heißes Wasser und Geschichten die er/sie teilen möchte? Die Präsentation der gesammelten Geschichten wird bei unserem kleinen Import-Export? VorOrt!-Festival Ende Oktober stattfinden.

Philipp Hamann ist Performance-Videokünstler und Absolvent der Kunsthochschule für Medien in Köln. In seinen Arbeiten erzählt er anhand von Photographien und Gegenständen gefundene und erlebte Geschichten seiner Alltagswelt. Er war Stipendiat an der “Cité des Arts” in Paris, wo er sich mit Pariser Obdachlosen anfreundete und mehrfacher Teilnehmer und mobiler Erzähler der “Migrating Art Acadamies”.

VivArte ist eine Stiftung mit dem Zweck der Kultur-Förderung, insbesondere von zeitgenössischer Kunst, Musik und Literatur zum Wohle einer breiten Öffentlichkeit.

Vortrag und Gespräch: Gewächshäuser und ein Pilzlabor für Garath?

Im Rahmen des Import-Export? Vorort! Ladenlokals in der Emil-Barth-Str. 9 laden verschiedene Workshop zum Erlernen urbaner Pilzzucht ein. Zunächst werden die einfachsten Grundlagen der Pilzzucht erlernt, die sich in Garath mit seinen vielen Balkonen, Wäldern und Grünflächen besonders gut umsetzen lassen. Dann werden wir gemeinsam eigenen Pilzgewächshäuser planen, die nach dem Open Source Prinzip funktionieren sollen. Die Zucht besonders von Heilpilzen könnte so zu einem Ausgangspunkt für eine lokale Ökonomie auf Tauschbasis werden.

Darija Medic (rs) “The South Collection”
If the buildings are observed as sculptures what are their sculptural characteristics? The visual and conceptual analysis of the sculptures is given in the audio guide, through a mash-up of different sources interpreting different subjects, giving viewpoints of artists as authors, art theory, various standpoints on public space in Rotterdam, and factual information on the buildings from the cadastre of Rotterdam. The hijacked content accounts to the arbitrary nature of giving (artistic) value, in the first place. The South Collection audio guide stems from a museum guide tradition, offering the visitor a museum like experience on location of the sculptures, by playing the audio files while walking along the crossed out numbers of houses in Oranjeboomstraat, one can actually get an authentic impression of how these buildings could be observed as artworks.

Carolina Saquel (cl) “In Reconstitution du jardin delectable”
I tracked specific “natural” events, inside an enlarged temporality in which the question of point of view both in a specific sense (perspective) and in a larger sense (ideological position and posture) is essential. I questioned myself about how a specific natural phenomenon without any human presence could be at the same time a character and a landscape, a foreground and a background; and how through visual and sound manipulation this nature can transform itself in front of us, emerging into another dimension. Calm and caring observation, a concentrated gaze, directed the process of work of this video, in which the camera moves constanly, without cease, inside an inhabited garden/forest, sort of labyrinthical space, in which we hope for something that will never arrive.

The Urban Prospector is basically a modified metal detector outfitted with combustable gas sensor that can be built for under 100 dollars. Through efficient design and user testing it will become an effective tool that is both easy to build and reliable.
Using a used metal detector found at a pawn shop or one ebay, one can remove the metal sensor. Then one replaces this sensor with either a benzene sensor or a hydrocarbon sensor. The analog data emitted by the sensor will analyzed by a microchip that will interface with the main computer running the metal detector. By using a basic metal detector as a host, one can use many of it’s built in features such as sound response and direction to create a useful tool.
By scanning the surface of ones neighborhood, you will be able to determine pockets of oil. Until recently, hydrocarbon/oil prospecting has been a field left to the “professionals”, because they require sophisticated tools for detection. But in much the same way gold prospecting empowered people to find small nuggets of “profit”, urban prospecting now has the potential to find small nuggets of oil near oil spills, abandoned gas stations, and industrial sites. Given the current high cost of oil these urban spills or potential “gold mines” waiting to be tapped.

Carolina Redondo (cl) “In a NETmare”
A slow camera movement glides above an undefinable space of white horizontal lines – a place with ambiguous depth through which a white body slides and slips upon white ribbons. The body melds with the surrounding and disappears in an unstructured flickering ocean. In a NETmare is a video performance filmed on 16 mm that is a representation of social structures and a graphic visualization of this network. The piece is a metaphor about the complexity of relations and human communications in an epoch of juxtaposition, crossing the connections and intersections of our existence. The self presence is explored in relation to intangible codes in time and space.

Claudia del Fierro (cl) “Wildlife”
Stockholm, Sweden. The starting point for “Wildlife” is the encounter with Jennie, a young woman who is hypersensitve to radiowaves and needs to live outside of the city without any technology. Jennie has found another way of living. Through Jennie´s story I get to know other people who have also left the city life for different reasons and who kindly invite me to enter their habitat.The work is developed by interviews, field notes, drawings and conversations around politics, ecology and the notion of community. The installation gives an account of the documentary work and of my own fiction.

Valentina Serrati “Aia”
This video art piece is the result of my experience living in Taiwan, Taipei for one and a half year.
My goal was to try to understand and identify specific characteristics from the environment, culture and local people in order to create a unique character for a video art piece. My methodology is based on daily life experience, observation and assimilation for a long period of time , until imagination is capable of translating personal experience into creative imaginary.
Aia is a character that lives in rooftops of Taipei City from where she observes different phenomena related to extreme climate change, religion, social behavior and architecture. Her costume is created from ready-made garments, which can be found in any corner store in Taipei, specifically related to weather protection.

Michelle-Marie Letelier “WFID”
This video work is a personal attempt to re-interpret some passages of this play, through the constant grasping of a coal-mining machine. A soft-voiced, off-screen narrator whispers these passages, while the constant movement of the machine seems to return the earth back to its source, as the video plays backwards.

Um ein mehrmonatiges Projekt im Stadtteil zu recherchieren, fängt man am Besten bei Null an. Erklärt uns was hier ist und wo ich es finde. Zusammen mit Garather Jugendlichen erkundeten wir die Möglichkeiten und Unmöglichkeiten, Wege und Irrungen aber auch Ahnungen des Düsseldorfer Stadteils Garath. Wie kommt man dorthin? Was macht man dort?

Linda Duvall and Peter Kingstone (ca) Living in 10 Easy Lessons:
“Lesson 3: how to do a fake lay”
To complete this project the artists met with various women who utilize the shelter system in Toronto. However, nowhere in the project are the participants identified in any way other than as a group of women possessing valuable skills; these women become the instructors. The skills are presented in the same tone that one would confront when introduced to any useful skill. The artists interview each instructor in order to better understand specifically how to implement the skill for themselves.
This project references the fact that we live in a culture in which almost anything can be learned through a series of steps. The Internet has made many skills from changing tires to bee-keeping both accessible and teachable. This project Living in 10 Easy Lessons disrupts the usual institutional model of teacher/learner and challenges the viewer’s assumptions concerning the kinds of skills usually presented. Viewers must become active in sorting the relationships among the various instructors and the artists.

Instruction manual” calls for experimental videos and print grafics (b/w), stubborn ideas and insights concerning DIY products and processes. Similar to our previous calls, we encourage fatchance operations, only this time we want to know “how to?”. Wether it is a narration or an experiment or an actual tutorial about a poetic idea, an actual process or a product. Send it in.

We will show the videos and the b/w printed instruction manuals (A3) at the Open Source Festival in our betting cabinet on the horse track, Düsseldorf

and they will be part of an ongoing research project as part of Import/Export/ Vorort, a five month local project of www.muehlenkampf.de in a small gardentown in Düsseldorf.

This project researches the possibilities of alternative products and the nature of open source and DIWO local production and will be launched 22. July.

We are also happy to connect to similar projects in other towns and from other collectives.

Mühlenkampf seeks collective strategies to constantly redesign social environments, criticism and creative exploration of existing structures. We carry out projects based on a growing but solid core of participants that expand, create and communicate deeds of urban and social actions, language and perception.
